Michigan Initiatives For Action

I founded the organization, developed its Transparency Initiative and created the digital platform that presented its work to the public.

This project brought together citizen-initiative development, petition preparation, public information and a complete website rebuild.

Founder and creator of the Transparency Initiative

I founded Michigan Initiatives For Action LLC and developed the Transparency Initiative, a proposed change to Michigan's Freedom of Information Act intended to extend public-records requirements to the governor and lieutenant governor's offices, the Legislature and their employees.

I drafted the initiative proposal, prepared the petition proof and took the proposal through the state petition-form review process. The Michigan Board of State Canvassers approved the petition's form on July 17, 2023, a procedural step that permitted signature collection. It was not enactment of the proposed law.

The initiative was not submitted by the May 29, 2024 deadline to qualify for the November 2024 ballot. I present that status here separately from the petition-form approval.

Two parts of one project: creating and organizing the citizen initiative, and designing and maintaining the website that documented the proposal and its progress.

From proposal to petition-form approval

2023 · Draft and prepare

Developed the FOIA proposal and prepared a petition proof for state review.

July 17, 2023 · Form approval

The Board of State Canvassers approved the petition's form, allowing circulation to proceed.

May 29, 2024 · Filing deadline

The petition was not submitted by the signature deadline for placement on the November 2024 ballot.

Rebuilding MichiganInitiatives.org

I redesigned the original WordPress and Elementor site into a lean, responsive HTML5 website while preserving the organization's initiative history, news articles and public information.

The rebuild included restoring About and Get Involved content, migrating media, rebuilding news pages, implementing sequential animated progress indicators, improving responsive layouts and supporting video playback. I deployed the new site from staging to the domain root and corrected navigation and asset paths.

The result is a simpler static front end with project information that can be maintained without the former WordPress page-builder setup.
